Trustee Joylette Williams


Joylette Williams is a Professor at Nassau Community College and has taught in the English Department for eighteen years. She is the Coordinator for the Center for Arts & Humanities and also holds dual appointments in the Women and Gender Studies and Human Rights Studies interdisciplinary programs. Before coming to NCC, Williams taught in the English as a Second Language Department at LaGuardia Community College. She has participated in study tours in both South Africa and Cuba and in 2013 was awarded a summer-long grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities to study the history and culture of India. Williams earned a PhD in English at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York where she focused her research on women’s human rights in the Middle East and North Africa. Among issues Williams is concerned about are healthcare, primary and secondary education, and decreasing intimate partner violence. Williams has been a proud resident of the Village of Hempstead for over twenty years where she resides with her daughter, Reina Samuels.
