Join us for the Jarred A. Newallo Skate Plaza dedication

On Saturday, April 27 all Village residents are invited to attend a dedication ceremony that will officially name our brand new beautiful skate park in Kennedy Memorial Park as “Jarred A. Newallo Skate Plaza.” Jarred was an avid skateboarder who was killed in a tragic sanitation truck accident in 2014.  He had dreamed of a skate park for his friends at Kennedy Memorial Park, where he’d worked as a summer camp counselor for years.  It is only fitting that we recognize his dream by renaming this new facility in his honor, which will serve as a safe place for the youth of Hempstead to gather and enjoy for years to come.

The $300,000 project was partially funded through a New York State grant secured with the help of former Deputy State Assembly Speaker Earlene Hooper.  The dedication ceremony starts at 12 p.m. and will feature a DJ, giveaways and light refreshments.

ESPRI Services are available for Hempstead Village residents

Several months ago the Village of Hempstead and United Way of Long Island named nine local projects as recipients of $1.1 million in state funding as part of the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI). The funds allocated through the Village’s ESPRI program are designed to provide coordinated access by connecting people to the resources they need to attain higher education, obtain job training and achieve financial self-sufficiency – all through a unique one-stop-shop.

Since ESPRI was announced the nine projects that received funding have been making efforts to connect with residents that could benefit from the different services being offered.  While those efforts have had some success, there is plenty of funding that still remains available.  Below is a brief description of the nine different projects being offered by the Village’s ESPRI.  We encourage you to take a few minutes to review them and if you or anyone know could benefit from these programs, please visit: VillageofHempsteadESPRI.org or call the respective numbers listed.
