Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. and the board of trustees commend Village of Hempstead resident Ronald James-Terry Taylor on his graduation from Syracuse University and drive to improve his community and society through education reform.

“Mr. Taylor represents the future of the Village of Hempstead,” said Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. “The Village is dedicated to providing every educational opportunity to its residents, and Ronald James-Terry Taylor’s success is emblematic of the access to opportunity and success the Village fosters.

Taylor is a 2015 graduate of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and recently graduated from the Syracuse University School of Education with a Master of Science in Social Studies Education (M.S.Ed) with a concentration in black male development. He is an Imagining America Engagement Scholar, a Burton Blatt Scholar and a Sarno Scholar in the School of Education. He aspires to work in education reform and policy, and wants to obtain a doctoral degree in curriculum and design.

He will soon work as a full time at Harlem Children's Zone as a secondary history educator as well as being the coordinator of Young Men Mentoring Initiatives. He is currently completing a fellowship with Education Pioneers in New York, focusing on building effective black male support programs for the Harlem Children's Zone.
"I have been blessed to be where I am because I come from a family that believed that Hempstead is a prime place to raise a family and disrupt narratives about black possibility,” said Taylor.

Outside of academics, Taylor is a member of the Iota Kappa Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he was named the 2015-17 International College Brother of the Year by the national organization. He is also a member of the Eta Theta Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha.

“Ronald Taylor is more than a successful, accomplished young man and Village resident, he is a role model for current and future students,” said Village of Hempstead Deputy Mayor Luis Figueroa. “Mr. Taylor’s success is an inspiration for future leaders in the Village and the country – we’re tremendously proud of him and we are excited to see where his talents lead him next.”
