The Village of Hempstead recently held its annual Tyree Curry 5K Memorial Run/Walk Health Fair and Hempstead Community Day. The Village hosts this event every year as part of Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr.’s ongoing commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. The Tyree Curry 5K Health Fair and Community Day kicked off with the 5K run/walk through the heart of the downtown and was immediately followed by a community day in Denton Green Park. The day featured a free concert, health screenings, food, face painting, fitness classes, balloon artists, a bouncy house and family-friendly games. The 5K was named in honor of Tyree Curry, a beloved school administrator who served in Hempstead’s school system for 32 years. More than 200 Village of Hempstead community members participated in this year’s event.
Proceeds from this year’s Tyree Curry 5K will be donated to NephCure Kidney International (NKI). NephCure is the only organization in the world that focuses on raising money for research to find better treatments and a cure for some of the most devastating kidney diseases affecting children and adults.
