Sewage Treatment Master Plan - Ongoing Road Work

Various roads along Front Street including between Peninsula Blvd. and Franklin Street will be affected during this project.  Please plan extra travel time if driving through these areas.

Project Details:

As part of its Sewage Treatment Master Plan, the Nassau County Department of Public Works (NCDPW) is in the process of making a series of improvements that will ultimately divert a portion of existing sewage flow in the Village of Hempstead from the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, where it is currently routed, to the Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant. This is one of a number of initiatives that are either planned or currently in the works throughout Nassau concerning its master plan project.

The NCDPW project involves construction, renovation, and other modifications to the sewer system in the Village of Hempstead necessary to improve the capacity of the wastewater collection system and eliminate sanitary sewer overflows in the Barnes Avenue area of Baldwin, located downstream.

More specifically, the project includes construction of a new flow diversion pump station adjacent to the existing Weekes Park Pumping Station, renovation of the Newmans Court Pumping Station, with a new force main that will transfer flow to the new flow diversion pump station. Additionally, installation of new force main piping under Front Street/Route 102, Ingraham Boulevard, Jerusalem Avenue, Meadowbrook State Parkway, and South Franklin Street will allow conveyance and transfer of sewage from the Village of Hempstead to the Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant. In total, 17,890 linear feet of force main piping will be installed through a combination of open cut excavation and pipe jacking.
