The Incorporated Village of Hempstead’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is pleased to sponsor the “Hempstead Village Recycles" Artwork Contest for *Hempstead Union Free School District students in grades 5-12. The purpose of the contest is to initiate discussions and encourage action among students to do their part in recycling and sustainability around the following theme: Let’s Recycle Right!
We have join the America Recycles Pledge to Our hope is that the contest allows us an opportunity to work together to educate youth about promoting why everyone should recycle. We are requesting your assistance in announcing the contest, recruiting students to participate and return all the amazing Importance of Recycling artwork.
Attached is the contest flyer. Children can submit their artwork in landscape view on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper. The drawings can be made using any medium the child would prefer ie. sketching, paintings etc. The artwork will be judged by originality and artistic ability according to grade level.
Artwork entries must be received by Friday, December 6, 2019. The artwork will be judged by Hempstead Department of Public Work representatives. There will be one grand prize winner whose artwork will grace the cover of the 2020 Sanitation Recycling Guide, which will be mailed to all residents. In addition, the grand prize winning artwork will be displayed on our website throughout the year. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Each grade will have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Runner up which will receive a certificate and an enlarged copy of their winning artwork that can be displayed in their school.
