Fire Department
The Hempstead Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1832. It consists of ten companies, as well as a rescue squad, fire police squad and a fire prevention bureau.
The department welcomes applications for new membership every third Tuesday of the month. You may apply at 8:00 pm at fire headquarters, located at 75 Clinton Street.
