First annual Green-Thumb Challenge
From the Desk of Mayor Hall
One of my favorite aspects of summer is enjoying the abundance of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables available at our local farm stands and community markets all across Long Island. When it comes to taste and nutritional value, there is nothing better than organic produce fresh off the vine, especially when it is grown right in your own backyard or terrace.
This year, the Board of Trustees and I are pleased to invite all Hempstead residents to take part in our first annual Green-Thumb Challenge. Throughout the summer, our judges will visit the homes of participating residents to weigh their finest tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, squash, potatoes, peppers. zucchini, strawberries, melons and more to find the biggest and best fruits and vegetables in the Village. There will be prizes for the winners in several categories, with official citations from the Board of Trustees.
The contest will run from June through September. Registration forms are available here.
To stay on top of what’s happening in the Village, please join our electronic mailing list by sending your name and email address to Mayor@VillageofHempsteadNY.gov, and listen to the “Hempstead Happening” radio show every Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. on WHTE-AM (820).
Sincerely,
Wayne
