Kickoff for the US Census Registration at the Antioch Baptist Church
The Hempstead Branch of the NAACP, Mr. Ed Tolliver, President in conjunction with the Outreach Ministry of Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Phillip Elliott will be hosting a kickoff for the US Census Registration at the Antioch Baptist Church 94 James LL Burrell Ave Hempstead NY on Saturday March 13, 2010 at 1pm. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall to learn about the IMPORTANCE of participating in the CENSUS.
Long Island received nearly $3 billion in federal aid in 2008 based on Census-related statistics. It is important to participate in the Census so that all areas can receive their fair share of federal assistance. Federal aid is crucial to providing a full range of services in health care, transportation, community development and many other areas, so it is especially important that we work side by side with the Census Bureau to make sure every individual residing in Nassau is counted.
Raising Census response rates among “hard to count” populations, such as minorities and children, “will serve to increase the flow of federal funds” because most of the programs receiving federal aid serve “people in need, and poverty’s a proxy for that.” The funds are funneled to the 50 states then to Metropolitan areas the largest counties, local governments, school districts, to be used for such things as Medicaid reimbursements, highway construction and education.
We look forward to seeing you there, for this highly informative event.
Sincerely,
Henry Holley
